Warsaw, Aug 23: FC Copenhagen secured a 1–0 win over Ráko Częstochowa in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League play-offs. With this win, FC Copenhagen is only one step away from the Champions League group stage.
After defeating Cypriot teams Aris Limassol and Karabagh FK in the first round of the league, Rakou made it to the Champions League group stage for the first time. However, the Polish champions were not seen as favorites in the playoff matchup on Tuesday.
Reportedly it took Copenhagen only eight minutes to break down Rakow’s defense, with Mohamed Elyounoussi scoring a beautiful goal to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Rakow goalkeeper Vladan Kovačević failed to keep out Mohamed Elyounoussi’s beautiful left-footed shot.
In the extra time of the 1st half of the game, Rakow’s Giannis Papanikolaou scored a goal, but with the help of VAR, the referee disallowed that goal, and Milan Rundić, who passed the header, was declared offside.
After this Rakow’s players tried hard but were unable to beat Kamil Grabara who was the goalkeeper of FC Copenhagen.
And with that, the game ended 1-0 with a huge shout from the referee.
Copenhagen leads 1-0 going into the second leg, which will be held on August 30 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
