With Hardik Pandya expected to take over as the captain of the ODI and T20I squads, the Indian cricket team is about to experience another significant transition. According to information obtained by Times Now, Hardik will take the place of Rohit Sharma, whose health has recently come under question. Due to fitness difficulties, Rohit has missed a lot of games and isn’t participating in the current Test series against Bangladesh too.
Since his return to international cricket in June, Hardik has only participated in white-ball cricket on a regular basis. By leading Gujarat Titans to an IPL championship earlier this year, Hardik established his credentials as a captain, and he was in the lead for the T20I captaincy. Now it appears as though he might be granted full control of the white-ball teams. The BCCI has informed Pandya of this development and is awaiting word on whether or not he is permitted to play in both formats.
Following the 2021 T20 World Cup, Rohit assumed the T20I captaincy to begin the home series against New Zealand. In December 2021, he succeeded Virat Kohli as the ODI captain. However, Rohit was unable to captain the Men in Blue in his first ODI series because he was unable to travel to South Africa because of an injury. He skipped the Test series as well.
In List A cricket, Pandya has never been a team captain. In 5 T20I matches, he has led Team India to 4 victories. The next match for India’s white-ball teams will be against Sri Lanka on January 3, and the teams for the series will be revealed by the end of the following week. For the home series, Rohit is probably going to make a comeback.
