Meta-owned Threads has announced that it will be making its application programming interface (API) available to developers by June of this year. Currently, the company is testing this with a select group of partners and independent developers.
Threads engineer Jesse Chen mentioned in a post that while access to the Beta will be limited for now, they aim to make the API widely accessible by the end of June. The Threads API has been developed to allow creators, developers, and brands to manage their Threads presence efficiently and share new ideas with their communities from various third-party applications.
Currently, the API allows users to authenticate, publish threads, and retrieve the content they have posted through these tools. The company plans to add reply moderation and insights capabilities soon.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, confirmed that they are working on an API to enable third-party experiences. Additionally, Meta has initiated testing for a cross-posting feature that would enable users to post from Facebook to Threads, similar to the feature used for posting Stories and Reels on both Facebook and Instagram simultaneously.
