Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced the launch of the “GST Bachat Utsav”, a nationwide initiative aimed at highlighting the benefits of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms. The campaign will begin tomorrow, coinciding with the first day of Navratri, a festival celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across the country.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said that the initiative is designed to help common citizens understand how GST has reduced tax burdens, streamlined compliance, and brought transparency to India’s indirect tax system. “GST has not only simplified the tax structure but has also ensured that the benefits of reforms reach the middle class, small traders, and entrepreneurs. The GST Bachat Utsav will spread awareness on how people are saving money due to these reforms,” the Prime Minister said.

The campaign will feature special awareness drives, interactive sessions, and outreach programmes across states, showcasing the role of GST in lowering the prices of household goods, consumer durables, and essential commodities. Government officials stated that the festival season is the perfect time to launch such a campaign, as increased consumer spending during Navratri and Diwali provides a clear example of how GST-driven savings benefit families directly.

Industry leaders and trade associations have welcomed the move, calling it a positive step to build confidence among small businesses and customers. Many traders said GST reforms have reduced the cascading effect of multiple taxes and helped them operate more competitively in both domestic and global markets.

The GST Bachat Utsav is also expected to address misconceptions about compliance and input tax credits. According to officials, outreach teams will visit markets, shopping complexes, and small business hubs to demonstrate how GST has eased operations.

PM Modi emphasized that just as Navratri marks the triumph of good over evil, the GST reforms represent the victory of transparency and efficiency over complexity and corruption. He urged citizens and business owners to participate in the programme and make full use of the benefits provided under GST.

The GST Bachat Utsav will run throughout the festive season and include seminars, exhibitions, and consumer awareness campaigns.
