At least 26 people were killed and more than a dozen injured in a deadly road accident involving a passenger bus in the Ayacucho region of southern Peru on Tuesday. Here the bus with more than 40 passengers fell into the ditch. The bus accident happened while traveling from Lima to the Andean region of Ayacucho. The bus plunged down a cliff about 200 meters (656 ft) into a ditch.
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, the vehicle of “Empresa Turismo Molina Union SAC” went off the road on Los Libertadores highway in Paras district of Cangalo province of Ayacucho region and fell into a ditch about 200 meters deep on Tuesday.
Highway safety officer Johnny Rolando Valderrama said about 40 passengers were on board the bus. This accident took place early in the morning and 14 people were injured in this accident.
Five ambulances were dispatched to the scene by local health facilities, the police medical service and the fire department.
Some photos of the bus crash have been shared on social media and Peruvian news outlets, showing a damaged bus lying in a ditch and debris strewn on the ground.
The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
According to official statistics, 70 percent of all accidents in Peru are caused by human factors.
