Jerusalem, December 1: The Gaza armistice is ending today and Israel has released 30 more Palestinian prisoners from jail. This has been confirmed by the Israeli Prison Service. The ceasefire is ending today on Friday after being extended for 24 hours.
According to the BBC report, the names of the Palestinian prisoners who have been released from jail have not been disclosed.
No confirmation of the prisoners’ release has yet been made by Hamas or media affiliated with the terrorist group.
The Israel-Hamas ceasefire was made possible under the terms brokered by the US, Qatar and Egypt. According to these terms, for every Israeli hostage released, Israel had to release three Palestinians.
Talks were underway to extend the Israel-Hamas ceasefire for a seventh day. The talks became tense, but the Israeli government ultimately accepted the proposal made by Hamas after a long struggle and released eight new Israeli hostages on Thursday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office issued a statement saying, “His government welcomes the six citizens who have just returned to Israeli territory.” They have returned to the country and their families have been informed by the authorities.
The ceasefire is due to expire again on Friday at around 7 am local time.
Hamas’ military wing has asked its forces to remain on “high combat readiness” if the ceasefire is not extended.
Since the ceasefire began, 86 Israelis, 240 Palestinians and 24 foreign nationals have been released.
