The Il-76 military aircraft was hit by a missile fired from Ukraine, the Russian Investigative Committee has informed. They say that the IL-76 military aircraft was attacked by a missile launched from the Kharkiv region of Ukraine.
Citing a Telegram post, Xinhua news agency reported that on Friday the Investigative Committee reported that the investigation revealed that the anti-aircraft missile system used to target the Il-76 aircraft was located in the Kharkov region. It was situated in Liptsi village.
It said the plane crashed in the Belgorod region. Documents have been found at the crash site of the plane. The documents found provide an explanation for the killed Ukrainian military personnel.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, said the missile that attacked the Il-76 aircraft was apparently fired from territory controlled by the Ukrainian side.
Russian President Vladimir Putin further said that Ukrainian leaders were aware of the Ukrainian prisoner aboard the plane.
A Russian Il-76 transport plane carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners, six crew members and three accompanying people crashed after being hit by a missile in the Belgorod region of the country on Wednesday.
