Dubai, December 1: Uganda, making their first appearance in a senior ICC World Cup event, will join the ranks of cricket giants like Australia, India, England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the participation of 20 teams in the upcoming tournament to be held in the USA and West Indies next year.
Uganda secured a top-two finish in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier after defeating Rwanda with a thumping nine-wicket win to secure their place. Along with Namibia from the Africa Qualifier, Uganda represents the new addition to the 20-team lineup for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Participating teams include a mix of associate members and established cricket nations: Canada, Ireland, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, Oman, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland and the United States of America (USA).

Apart from the traditional cricket superpowers, Afghanistan, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies will also compete in the tournament. Initially the 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Eight stage. Here, the remaining teams will be divided into two groups of four each, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, culminating in the championship final.
