Following the alleged murder of her four-year-old son by Suchana Seth, the CEO of a Bengaluru-based start-up, at a Goa hotel, the child’s father performed the last rites in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning.
Suchana Seth was apprehended in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district after reportedly attempting to flee in a cab with the child’s body concealed in a bag late on Monday.
After the post-mortem examination in Hiriyur, Chitradurga district, Venkatraman P R, the child’s father, transported the body to Bengaluru, placing it in an apartment in Rajajinagar where his parents reside.
Dr. Kumar Naik, the government doctor overseeing the autopsy, disclosed on Tuesday that the child was killed more than 36 hours ago, likely by smothering or strangulation, as there were no signs of struggle or visible wounds. Dr. Naik suggested the use of a pillow or wire in the alleged crime.
During police questioning, Seth claimed she did not kill her son, insisting he was asleep, and she was unaware of how he died.
The police disclosed that Seth and Venkatraman married in 2010, but marital issues arose after the birth of their son in 2019. Venkatraman stated in his police statement that Seth became increasingly possessive of their child, leading to frequent arguments. The couple separated, with no contact for the past two years.
Their divorce proceedings were in progress, and a recent family court order in Bengaluru directed the father to have custody of the child every Sunday. However, Seth allegedly prevented visitation for the past five weeks. Police suspect her trip to Goa was an attempt to ensure another week passed without custody exchange.
Seth has been granted six days of police custody by a local court in Goa.
