Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone through video conferencing for three semiconductor projects, costing Rs 1.25 lakh crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken an important initiative towards advancing the dream of making India a global semiconductor hub. The foundation stone of these projects was laid in just 15 days after the approval of the Union Cabinet. The Prime Minister has called the 21st century the century of technology.
Thousands of students from across the country participated in India’s Teched: Chips for Developed India programme, which was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the 21st century is the century of technology. PM Modi described it as a big leap towards a bright future.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this is a historic day, which will help India become a global semiconductor hub. I congratulate all citizens on this important occasion. More than sixty thousand colleges, universities and institutes participated in this program.
The Prime Minister said that it is not possible to imagine the 21st century without high-end chips. A Made in India chip, a chip designed in India will take India towards self-reliance and modernity. He said that chip manufacturing is not just an industry, it opens the door of growth with infinite possibilities. New employment opportunities are going to open up in this sector.
Union Communications and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, the plan to make semiconductors in the country has been going on since 1962, but it has not yielded any results. We have done ground-breaking ceremony of four semiconductor plants within a year, including the Micron plant in Sanand, Gujarat, which was commissioned in September last year. The credit for making these schemes possible goes only to PM Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission.
PM Modi laid the foundation stones of three chip plants, a semiconductor manufacturing plant at Dholera Special Investment Zone (DSIR) in Gujarat, an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) plant at Morigaon in Assam and an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) plant at Sanand in Gujarat.
A semiconductor fabrication facility will be set up at DSIR by Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL). This will be the country’s first commercial semiconductor fab, in which a total investment of 91 thousand crore rupees will be made.
OSAT facility will be set up at Morigaon by Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL). It has a total investment of about 27 thousand crore rupees.
OSAT facility for ATMP will be set up at Sanand under revised plan by CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited. It will involve a total investment of around Rs 7,500 crore.
