The Bihar Assembly Election Results 2025 triggered major political reactions on Sunday after Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, dramatically announced her decision to quit politics and distance herself from her family. Her exit came just a day after the RJD suffered a massive defeat, winning only 25 seats in the 243-member assembly. In an emotional post, Rohini said she was “disowning” her family and blamed Tejashwi Yadav’s close aides — Sanjay Yadav and Rameez — for pressuring and mistreating her. She even alleged that she had been thrown out of the house and insulted repeatedly, despite having once donated a kidney to save her father’s life. Her decision quickly became one of the most discussed moments of the Bihar results.
Reacting to the controversy, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said he preferred not to comment directly on her family issues but emphasised that the opposition must conduct serious introspection after such a disappointing performance. Tharoor said that political parties need to understand what went wrong and rebuild with better strategy and clarity. Earlier, he had described the NDA’s sweeping victory as a wake-up call for opposition parties, stressing the need for organisational and messaging improvements.
Meanwhile, Bihar BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal reacted strongly to Rohini’s resignation, saying the Yadav family was “breaking from within.” He said it was unfortunate to see such divisions, especially in a family that had played a major role in Bihar’s politics for decades. Jaiswal also highlighted the irony that someone who sacrificed her kidney for her father was now stepping away due to internal conflicts.
Rohini’s departure has intensified the discussion around deepening rifts within the RJD. Political observers note that her exit reflects the growing frustration inside the party after one of its worst electoral performances. The NDA’s landslide — securing over 200 seats — has further shifted the political landscape of Bihar, giving the BJP-JDU alliance a strong mandate. Despite the setback, the RJD has stated that it will continue to “raise the voice of the poor” and reorganise for future challenges.
Rohini’s sudden withdrawal from politics has therefore added both emotional and political drama to the Bihar election results. While the NDA celebrates its massive win, the RJD now faces the dual challenge of rebuilding the party and resolving internal family tensions that have spilled into the public eye.
