US President Donald Trump virtually joined the celebrations marking the 250th Independence Day of the United States in Delhi through a phone call facilitated by US Ambassador Sergio Gor. During the interaction, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also present as Trump expressed strong support for India and admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Trump said India could “count on” him completely and described the relationship between the two countries as strong and growing. He also praised India’s leadership and called himself a “big fan” of Prime Minister Modi.
Speaking during the interaction, Trump highlighted the strong performance of the US economy and stock market, while emphasizing his commitment to strengthening ties with India. He also praised Marco Rubio, calling him one of the finest Secretaries of State in US history.
Rubio Praises Jaishankar and India-US Partnership
Separately, Marco Rubio lauded India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during a joint press conference in Delhi.
Rubio described Jaishankar as a wise and respected leader who has played a major role in strengthening India-US relations. He recalled that one of his very first official meetings as Secretary of State was with representatives of the Quad nations, where he interacted with Jaishankar.
According to Rubio, the relationship between India and the United States goes far beyond traditional diplomacy and reflects a deep strategic partnership based on shared interests and democratic values.
Key Issues Discussed During Rubio’s Visit
During the press conference, Rubio highlighted the broad cooperation between the two countries in areas such as security, technology, counterterrorism, and global strategic challenges.
He said India remains one of America’s most important strategic partners and emphasized that both nations work closely together to address global issues.
Rubio also stressed the strong counterterrorism cooperation between Washington and New Delhi, noting that both countries have suffered from the impact of global terrorism and therefore share a strong alignment on security matters.
On technology and innovation, Rubio said India and the United States are working together to balance the opportunities and risks emerging from advanced technologies in the 21st century.
The visit and interactions further underscored the growing strategic and diplomatic ties between India and the United States.
