The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against filmmaker Pushpendra Singh after actor Satendra Soni, who appeared in Laapataa Ladies, alleged that he was denied payment and threatened while working on a film in Madhya Pradesh.
The controversy began after Satendra Soni shared an emotional video on social media, claiming he had been hired for a 10-day shooting schedule for a film titled Paid Palki. According to the actor, he completed eight days of filming but did not receive his agreed remuneration. Soni alleged that when he requested payment, he was threatened with violence and instructed to leave the hotel where he was staying within minutes. He also claimed that he and his colleagues feared for their safety during the incident.
Following the video’s circulation, AICWA issued a statement expressing solidarity with the actor and condemning the alleged treatment of artists and film workers. The association said that no actor or technician should have to endure intimidation or denial of rightful wages and called the allegations deeply concerning.
AICWA has urged the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh to direct the police to register an FIR against the producer and director based on the allegations made by Satendra Soni. The organization also called for a fair and impartial investigation into the matter, stressing that every artist deserves timely payment, dignity, and a safe working environment.
In its statement, the association noted that complaints regarding delayed payments and intimidation are not uncommon in the entertainment industry. It said such incidents highlight the need for stronger safeguards for actors, technicians, and daily-wage workers involved in film production.
After the incident, Satendra Soni posted another update on social media confirming that he had safely returned to Mumbai with the assistance of local authorities. However, he maintained that he expects justice and payment for the work he completed.
As of now, the filmmaker named in the allegations has not publicly responded to the claims. The allegations remain unverified, and no court has ruled on the matter. Authorities are yet to announce whether an FIR has been registered or if a formal investigation has begun.
