Actor R. Madhavan has once again addressed speculation about whether he could follow in the footsteps of his friend and fellow actor Vijay by entering politics.
The question gained fresh attention after Vijay made a historic transition from cinema to politics and became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Madhavan was among the film personalities who congratulated Vijay, describing him as his “brother” and wishing him a successful and impactful tenure.
However, Madhavan has made it clear that he does not currently see himself entering electoral politics. In recent comments, the Dhurandhar star said he does not want to become Chief Minister and described politics as a “double-edged sword.”
Madhavan Praises Vijay’s Political Journey
Madhavan’s response came while he was discussing Vijay’s remarkable political journey. He expressed happiness over his friend’s achievement and said he now has to address him as “CM Vijay.”
Following Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony in May, Madhavan had publicly congratulated him, writing that he hoped Vijay’s tenure would be rewarding and impactful for Tamil Nadu. He also said he was proud of his friend.
Madhavan was particularly impressed by Vijay’s preparation for his new role. He praised the newly elected Chief Minister for reciting his entire oath from memory, calling it a sign of commitment and dedication.
Why Madhavan Is Staying Away From Politics
Madhavan has maintained a similar position for years. In a 2018 interview, when asked about actors entering politics, he said that joining politics to serve people was a positive thing, but clarified that he himself was not politically inclined.
He said he considered acting his primary profession and believed he could contribute to society without becoming a politician.
His latest remarks suggest that his position has not changed significantly despite Vijay’s successful political transition.
For now, Madhavan appears focused on his acting career rather than following Vijay into electoral politics. His portrayal of Ajay Sanyal in Dhurandhar 2 has also kept him in the spotlight, while he continues to work on upcoming projects.
With Vijay’s political success potentially encouraging more celebrities to consider public life, Madhavan’s decision to remain outside politics is likely to remain a topic of interest among fans.
