Yash’s much-awaited action thriller ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ witnessed a sharp decline in box-office collections on its first Monday, earning an estimated Rs 7.45 crore net in India. The film, which opened to huge numbers on its first day, saw its momentum slow considerably as the first weekend came to an end.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic released in theatres on August 26 and had generated enormous anticipation, particularly because it marked Yash’s return to the big screen after the blockbuster success of KGF: Chapter 2. The film also stars Kiara Advani, along with Nayanthara and other prominent actors.
Sharp Drop After Strong Weekend
The Monday figures represent a significant fall from the film’s Sunday earnings. Toxic reportedly collected around Rs 23 crore on Sunday, meaning its Monday business dropped by approximately 67.6 per cent.
The decline has raised questions about whether the film can maintain its momentum during the crucial weekdays. While a drop after the opening weekend is normal for major releases, the extent of the fall is being closely watched because of the enormous expectations surrounding the film.
Crosses Rs 220 Crore in India
Despite the weak Monday, Toxic has already crossed the Rs 220 crore mark in India’s net box-office collections. According to the latest reported figures, the film’s six-day India net stands at approximately Rs 221.55 crore, while its India gross collection is around Rs 264.80 crore. Its worldwide gross has reportedly crossed Rs 304 crore.
The strong opening helped the film build a substantial lead early in its theatrical run. However, sustaining that momentum will be critical if the movie is to reach the much higher targets expected of a big-budget Yash release.
Mixed Audience Response
The box-office slowdown comes amid mixed reactions from audiences and critics. While Yash’s performance, the film’s visual presentation and its ambitious scale have received appreciation from some viewers, others have raised concerns about the narrative and overall execution.
The divided response could be one of the factors influencing weekday occupancy, particularly as audiences decide whether to watch the film in theatres after the initial rush.
Pressure on the Week Ahead

For now, Toxic remains well above the Rs 200-crore mark domestically and has crossed Rs 300 crore worldwide. Whether it can recover from its first-Monday dip and continue its run towards the much-discussed Rs 500-crore worldwide target will depend largely on audience response in the days ahead.
