Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has allegedly received an extortion threat demanding Rs 5 crore from a caller claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The caller reportedly identified himself as Harry Boxer, an alleged member of the gang, and demanded the money from the actor.
Following the threat, Tusshar Kapoor approached Mumbai Police and informed them about the incident. The matter was subsequently handed over to the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Mumbai Crime Branch for investigation. According to police sources, the complaint was lodged around a week ago.
As part of the investigation, the Crime Branch’s technical team examined the audio recording of the threatening call and compared the caller’s voice with official voice samples of Harry Boxer available in its database. Preliminary analysis reportedly found that the voices did not match, raising suspicions that the caller may have been impersonating a gang member.
Senior police officials suspect that an unidentified individual may have deliberately used the Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s name to intimidate the actor and extort money. Investigators are now attempting to trace the person responsible for sending the threatening audio recording and establish the motive behind the call. No First Information Report (FIR) had been registered in the case at the time of the latest reports.
The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in the Bollywood industry following the recent firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area. On October 18, unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at the actor’s vehicle, leaving his driver and a civilian injured. Individuals claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack.
The latest threat to Tusshar Kapoor has once again raised concerns about the use of organised crime syndicates’ names to target celebrities and demand money. However, Mumbai Police’s preliminary findings suggest that the caller may not have been an actual member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and the investigation is continuing to establish the identity of the person behind the threat.
