Sep 5 – Elon Musk is suing the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an anti-antisemitism organisation, for unjustly accusing him and X Corp (previously Twitter) of antisemitism.
The software entrepreneur also blamed ADL for X’s declining ad income in the United States.
“It appears that we will have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League to clear our platform’s name on the issue of anti-Semitism… oh the irony!” Musk tweeted late Monday.
“To clear our platform’s name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League … oh the irony!” Musk posted late on Monday.
“Our US advertising revenue is still down 60 per cent, primarily due to pressure on advertisers by ADL (that’s what advertisers tell us), so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter!” the X owner added.
Musk was accused of like tweets with the hashtag #BanTheADL, which was popular on X last week, in a series of postings.
The ADL stated that it had a fruitful discussion with X CEO Linda Yaccarino on combating hate speech on the platform.
“Since the acquisition, The @ADL has been trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me of being anti-Semitic,” Musk posted.
Antisemitism was an issue on Twitter even before Musk bought it for $44 billion in October of last year.
By criticising Jewish billionaire George Soros and partaking in antisemitic content on X, Musk has been accused of evoking antisemitic tropes and conspiracy theories.
On Sunday, just days after promoting an anti-Semitic campaign to ban ADL from X, the “free-speech absolutist” Musk advocated polling the social media platform’s users about removing the civil rights advocacy group.
“The ADL has done a lot of good work in prior decades, but has been overzealous in recent years & hijacked by the woke mind virus,” Musk said.
