During his three-day visit to Chandigarh, Rotary International President Gordon R McInally highlighted the Chandigarh Rotary Club’s proactive role in tackling public health issues. He commended the club for its efforts in eradicating tuberculosis (TB) from the city, noting their collaboration with the UT health department to provide supplements to patients in identified areas.
McInally emphasized Rotary International’s commitment to mental health as a global priority. In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, he discussed ongoing projects aimed at counseling and treating individuals traumatized by the pandemic’s impact on mental health. Generating awareness and combating the stigma associated with mental health conditions were identified as crucial challenges.
Addressing the club’s initiatives, McInally praised their dedication to supporting 300 TB patients with nutritious food rations every month for six months. He acknowledged Rotary’s historical role in promoting peace through personal connections and expressed a commitment to adapting to virtual platforms for future programs, events, and activities.
On the global stage, McInally discussed Rotary’s continued focus on empowering girls and women. He urged members to contribute to improving the health, education, economic security, and overall well-being of girls worldwide.
During a gathering of over 300 Rotarians, McInally underscored Rotary’s mission to create hope and understanding globally. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts to eradicate polio from the remaining two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and commended the Rotary Club of Chandigarh for its Heartline project, which has saved 778 children’s lives since 1999.
McInally recognized and felicitated eight Rotarians for their significant contributions to the Arch Klumph Society, each having contributed $250,000 to the Rotary Foundation. These individuals included Subhash Garg and Praveen from Yamunanagar, PJ Singh and Dr. Rajinder Kaur of Chandigarh, Jagesh Khaitan and Usha, as well as Vinod Kapoor from the city and Kapil Gupta from Yamunanagar.
