External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday on a two-day visit to hold “meaningful talks” to further the special relationship between India and Mauritius.
S. Jaishankar has been re-appointed as External Affairs Minister in the third term of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also this visit reflects India’s commitment to ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, ‘Vision Sagar’ and ‘Global South’ (less developed countries).
Foreign Minister S. On the second and final day of his visit to Mauritius, Jaishankar met several leaders of the island nation, including former Prime Minister Naveen Ramgoolam, former Prime Minister Paul Berenger and many others.
He first met former Prime Minister Ramgoolam. In a post on social media platform X, he wrote, “I was very happy to meet former Prime Minister Naveen Ramgulam.” Discussions took place on the long-standing bilateral relationship between the two countries and how to further it. I appreciate the support he has extended to India-Mauritius relations.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar after meeting former Prime Minister Ramgoolam met another former Prime Minister Paul Berenger. He described the meeting as a lively discussion on relevant global issues.
Arwin Bullel, the opposition leader of Mauritius, spoke to S. about the relations between India and Mauritius and the progress, prosperity and welfare of the Indian Ocean region. He is also scheduled to launch a mediclinic in Grand Bois with Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth. This mediclinic has been built with Indian grants and is one of the country’s signature projects.
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met PM Jugnath on Tuesday. Defense and maritime cooperation, development projects etc. were discussed between the leaders of the two countries. An MoU was also signed between the two countries for financing four community projects.
