Former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and ex-President Greg Brockman returned to the company’s San Francisco headquarters on Sunday, following an invitation from interim CEO Mira Murati, as reported by The Information. Altman, despite being ousted by the board on Friday, is reportedly in discussions about a potential comeback to the company responsible for the ChatGPT bot. Simultaneously, he is contemplating the launch of a new artificial intelligence (AI) venture, according to Reuters.
The abrupt dismissal of Altman, widely recognized as the human face of generative AI, sent shockwaves through the tech industry. The Information’s report did not elicit a comment from OpenAI to Reuters about the specifics of the situation.
On Sunday, Altman took to the X messaging platform to share an image of himself donning an OpenAI guest badge, accompanied by the caption: “First and last time I ever wear one of these.”
Altman’s removal from his position stirred discontent among current and former OpenAI employees, raising concerns about the potential impact on an upcoming $86 billion share sale, given the sudden upheaval in management.
