Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has hinted that his upcoming adaptation of the epic Mahabharat may be his final film. In a recent conversation on entrepreneur Raj Shamani’s podcast, Khan expressed that after completing this ambitious project, he might feel he has “nothing left to do” in his cinematic journey.
Khan described Mahabharat as a deeply layered narrative encompassing emotion, scale, and universal themes. He stated, “It’s layered, it has emotion, it has scale, everything you find in the world, you will find in Mahabharat.” Reflecting on the magnitude of the project, he added, “Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do. I cannot do anything after this.”
Currently, Khan is preparing for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, scheduled for June 20, 2025. This film, a spiritual successor to his 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par, features Khan as a basketball coach assigned to train a team of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Following Sitaare Zameen Par, Khan plans to dedicate himself entirely to Mahabharat, a project he has envisioned for years. He envisions it as a multi-part cinematic experience, potentially involving multiple directors to capture the epic’s vastness.
While Khan has not officially announced his retirement, his remarks suggest that Mahabharat could serve as the culmination of his illustrious career. Fans and industry peers alike are eagerly anticipating this monumental project, which promises to be a significant milestone in Indian cinema.
