Bollywood actress and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty has bid an emotional farewell to her iconic Mumbai restaurant, Bastian Bandra. Since its launch in 2016, the upscale eatery had become a culinary landmark in the city, attracting both locals and celebrities with its seafood specialties, chic interiors, and vibrant atmosphere. On September 4, 2025, the restaurant served its last meal, with Shetty describing the moment as “the end of an era” in a heartfelt Instagram post.
While the closure of Bastian Bandra sparked speculation—particularly given Shetty’s ongoing legal challenges—her team emphasized that the decision was part of a strategic transition rather than a permanent farewell. In fact, Bastian Hospitality has already mapped out the brand’s next chapter, with two exciting new ventures set to take its place.
The Bandra location will soon reopen as “Ammakai”, a specialty South Indian restaurant designed to celebrate the depth and diversity of regional cuisine. From coastal delicacies to spiced curries, Ammakai aims to bring an authentic, homegrown experience to Mumbai’s cosmopolitan food scene. Meanwhile, a brand-new outlet called “Bastian Beach Club” is preparing to launch in Juhu, combining indulgent dining with a breezy, beach-inspired vibe—marking a fresh direction for the brand.
Importantly, the closure of Bastian Bandra does not mark the end of the Bastian legacy. Bastian At The Top, the rooftop venue in Dadar West, will continue to operate as usual, along with its popular Arcane Affair Thursday-night event. This ensures loyal patrons can still enjoy the Bastian experience even as the brand reinvents itself.
For Shilpa Shetty, the evolution of Bastian is both personal and professional. What began as an ambitious restaurant venture in 2016 has grown into a hospitality powerhouse, constantly reinventing itself to stay relevant in Mumbai’s fast-changing dining landscape. With Ammakai and Bastian Beach Club, Shetty and her team are not just closing one chapter—they’re writing an entirely new one.
