Actor Harshvardhan Rane has announced that he will not participate in the sequel to his 2016 film Sanam Teri Kasam if Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane is part of the cast. This decision comes in response to Hocane’s recent remarks criticizing India amid escalating tensions between the two countries. Rane expressed his stance on Instagram, stating that he cannot overlook comments that he perceives as derogatory toward his nation.
In his Instagram Story, Rane wrote:
“While I am grateful for the experience, however, as things stand, and after reading the direct comments made about my country, I have made a decision to respectfully decline to be a part of Sanam Teri Kasam part 2 if there is any possibility of the previous cast being repeated.”
Mawra Hocane had posted a message condemning India’s military actions, referring to them as “cowardly attacks” and expressing solidarity with Pakistan. Her statement read: “Strongly condemn India’s cowardly attack on Pakistan… Innocent civilians have lost their lives. May Allah protect us all… may sense prevail. Ya Allah ho Ya Hafizo #PakistanZindabad.”
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has reiterated its stance on banning Pakistani artists from working in India, emphasizing a “strict and complete ban” on collaborations with Pakistani talent.
Rane’s decision has garnered support from fans and netizens, who have praised him for taking a principled stand.
