Chennai, October 18: The Madras High Court has refrained from taking any definite decision on the appeal of filmmakers seeking 4 am screening of Tamil superstar ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s blockbuster film ‘Leo’, releasing on October 19.
Justice Anita Sumanth told Advocate General R. Opted not to pass orders on the case due to strong opposition from Shanmugasundaram and state public prosecutor Mohammed Ali Jinnah. Instead, the court has directed the filmmakers to approach the state government with their request for 7 am shows between October 19 and 24.
In the order, Justice Anita Sumanth also directed the Tamil Nadu State Home (Cinema) Department to hold discussions with film producers and the Tamil Nadu Theater Owners Association keeping in mind the challenges of scheduling five shows between 9 am and 1.30 pm.
- Ramachandran, the authorized representative of the film’s producer Seven Screen Studios, argued in his appeal that Vijay has a significant fan base, and the trailer of ‘Leo’ was viewed by over 51 million people within seven days of its release. He also gave the example of Shahrukh Khan’s films ‘Pathan’ and ‘Jailor’, which had six to seven screenings in Mumbai and six in Delhi.
Earlier, Justice Anita Sumanth, a judge of the Madras High Court, had adjourned the hearing till Tuesday on the request of Tamil Nadu Advocate General, who needed time to confirm whether a public interest litigation (PIL) would be filed in the Madurai bench of Madras. ) has been filed. The High Court was transferred to Chennai regarding regulation of film screenings.
