Mumbai, December 9: After the stupendous success of ‘Gadar 2’, Bollywood legend Sunny Deol is gearing up for another cinematic venture, this time with actor Ayushmann Khurrana in ‘Border 2’. The shooting of the upcoming film, directed by Nidhi Dutta, daughter of renowned filmmaker J.P. Dutta, is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024.
Sunny Deol, reprising his pivotal role in the original ‘Border’, is set to lead the cast once again, the story of which is based on the historical tapestry of the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
While the rest of the ensemble cast is yet to be finalised, insiders reveal that Nidhi Dutta, who is also writing the script, sees ‘Border 2’ as the most elaborate war film ever produced in the country. Departing from its predecessors, the film aims to provide a comprehensive portrayal of the collaborative efforts of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force during the 1971 war. The narrative is expected to intricately weave the individual stories of war heroes and martyrs, adding a human dimension to the grand spectacle of war.
Ground work for the film began in 2022, including multiple trips to Delhi to obtain necessary permissions from the Defense Ministry to ensure accurate representation of historical events, shooting in authentic locations and using real names. J.P. Dutta has remained steadfast in his commitment to craft a story that pays fitting tribute to the legacy of ‘Border’.
Apart from recounting the historical events of the 1971 war, the film will also highlight the human stories that unfolded on the battlefield, adding a poignant layer to the cinematic narrative. As anticipation grows for ‘Border 2’, it is set to be a cinematic testament to the valor and sacrifices made during a crucial chapter in India’s history.
