Lucknow, Nov 13: A day after lighting 22 lakh lamps on the banks of Saryu river in Ayodhya, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav shared a video on social media platform X. The video reportedly shows children removing oil from lamps. A pier and transferring it to pots.
In his post, Yadav commented on the comparison of poverty and divinity, expressing concern that in the face of economic difficulties, the luster of the festival fades. He wished for a festival where not only the ghats but every poor house could be illuminated.
The video was shared after a notable incident in Ayodhya, where over 22 lakh earthen lamps were lit on the river bank in the seventh edition of Deepotsav. This achievement set a record, surpassing last year’s tally of 6.47 lakh lamps. A total of 25,000 volunteers participated in the lighting ceremony at 51 ghats of Ram Ki Paidi on the banks of river Saryu.
pic.twitter.com/hNS8w9z96B

Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records verified the count using a drone, officially recognizing it as a world record. Slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ echoed across Ayodhya as the city celebrated this grand display of lights and spirituality. However, Akhilesh Yadav’s post highlights the need to address socio-economic disparities and ensure that festive cheer reaches every household, especially those facing financial struggles.
