Chennai, November 28 (UITV) – Cyclone ‘Fengal’ rising in the Bay of Bengal is moving rapidly towards the Tamil Nadu coast and may affect the coast in the next one to two days. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), this cyclone is developing from a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal. Due to this, heavy rains are occurring in many districts of Tamil Nadu and a warning has been issued.
IMD said that this pressure is located about 110 km east-northeast of Trincomalee and is moving in the north-northwest direction. It may take the form of a cyclonic storm within the next 12 hours. It is estimated that by the morning of November 30, it will cross the North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram as a deep pressure.
During the cyclone, winds can blow at a speed of 50-60 km / h, which is likely to reach 70 km / h. Along with this, a warning of heavy to very heavy rains has also been issued.
A yellow alert has been issued in Chennai and its surrounding districts, while an orange alert has been declared for the delta districts. Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai in the delta region may receive more than 24.4 cm of rain. Apart from this, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Chengalpet and Puducherry are likely to receive up to 24 cm of rain.
Even before this, heavy rains have started in Chengalpet, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvallur, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam. Due to rain, schools and colleges have been closed in these districts on Wednesday.
17 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed to deal with any emergency. The Navy has also been kept on alert.
Due to the cyclone, heavy rains may continue in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next few days. Torrential rains along with strong winds can lead to flooding and waterlogging.
The government and administration have appealed to the citizens to remain alert. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Apart from this, traffic and power supply are likely to be disrupted due to heavy rains and strong winds.
