Mumbai, October 13: In a significant development, All India Raabta-e-Masjid, an organization representing mosques across India, has decided to name the mosque to be built at Dhannipur in the Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh as ‘Muhammad Bin Abdullah Masjid’ in his honor. The decision was taken during the AIRM conference, which was attended by senior clerics from various Muslim sects led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Haji Arafat Sheikh.
The Dhannipur Masjid site is about 22 km from the original site of the centuries-old Babri Masjid, which was demolished on 6 December 1992. In its place, the construction of the grand Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya is nearing completion.
Haji Arafat Sheikh noted that the new mosque, designated by a Supreme Court decision in November 2019, is set to become India’s largest mosque. It will be able to accommodate 9,000 worshippers, including 5,000 men and 4,000 women, for simultaneous prayers. The mosque complex will also have medical, educational, and social facilities, with plans to acquire additional land for expansion.
The apex court had allotted 5 acres of land for the new mosque and intends to purchase an additional 6 acres of land to expand the project with additional facilities. As Sheikh pointed out, despite previous delays due to differences between various groups, work on the grand ‘Muhammad Bin Abdullah Mosque complex is now expected to begin soon at the Dhannipur site.
A symbolic brick for the foundation ceremony was handed over to officials representing the Sunni Waqf Board of India, Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation of India, Salamati Peer Dargah Trust, and other organizations involved in this ambitious project.
