According to the weather office, the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.3 degrees in Jammu city, 7.4 degrees in Katra, 6 degrees in Batote, 2.4 degrees in Bhaderwah and 7.6 degrees in Banihal.
This period of harsh winter, known as ‘Chillai Kalan’, lasts for 40 days and is expected to continue till January 30. Area residents prepare themselves for severe cold during this extended winter phase.
