New Delhi, November 29 (UITV)- Congress has once again raised questions on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after its defeat in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Congress has alleged irregularities and lack of transparency in the elections, but the facts and process that have come to light regarding the transparency of the electoral process have shed a different light on these claims.
An account named Infoindata has shared a post on the social media platform X, which reads, “After the Congress’s crushing defeat in Maharashtra, it has again raised questions on India’s electoral process. However, the process and facts say something else.” Along with this post, he also shared infographics showing the transparency of the electoral process.
The infographics explain in detail the various measures of ‘checks and balances’ in the election process. The purpose of these measures is to ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair and honest manner.
During the election process, VVPAT-EVM (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail-Electronic Voting Machine) is checked six times. Representatives of all political parties are present during this process. This step ensures electoral transparency.
EVM machines are allocated randomly. This process ensures that no individual or party has any control over the machines.
While sealing the EVMs, the candidates or their representatives check and sign the machines at least five times. This ensures that the machines are sealed safely and properly and no tampering is possible.
Election Commission officials check the EVM and VVPAT units three times. These machines are signed by the Commission officials. After this, a list of 100 percent checked EVMs is shared with the political parties.
During counting, the VVPAT slips are matched with the EVM results. This process ensures that there is no tampering in the voting.
Elections are considered fair and transparent due to these technical and administrative steps of the electoral process. The strict scrutiny system adopted by the Election Commission and the participation of all political parties ensure that the chances of any kind of malpractice in the elections are minimal.
Despite the allegations levelled by the Congress, these processes have time and again proved that the Indian election system is built on the basis of modern technology and transparency. However, it is necessary to make the public and political parties aware and maintain faith in the election system.
