A terrible storm occurred in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district around 3:30 pm on Sunday, which caused great destruction in some parts. Strong winds prevailed along with rainfall in most parts of the district. In which trees were uprooted, many huts and houses were damaged, electricity poles fell. So far 5 people have died and hundreds of people have been injured in the storm.
Information about the number of injured has been received that around 500 people have been injured in this storm. On Sunday, Jalpaiguri District Magistrate Shama Parveen had informed the death of 4 people, while now one more woman has died.
The deceased have been identified as Yogen Ray (70), Samar Roy (64), Dwijendra Narayan Sarkar (52), Anima Roy (49). The news of another woman’s death due to the storm has also come to light.
Sad to know that sudden heavy rainfall and stormy winds brought disasters today afternoon in some Jalpaiguri-Mainaguri areas, with loss of human lives, injuries, house damages, uprooting of trees and electricity poles etc.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her condolences on this incident. He announced compensation as per legal provisions under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the victims, family members of the deceased and the injured.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave a statement on the incident and said that the district and block administration, police, DMG and QRT teams have mobilized for disaster management operations and are providing relief. All the people affected by this storm are being taken to safe places. In case of deaths, the district administration will provide compensation to the next of kin and all the injured leagues will be given ex-gratia. The amount of assistance to the injured will be given as per rules and in compliance with MCC.
Dhupaguri and Mainaguri districts are the most affected by this storm. The sources of the district administration said that the condition of some of the injured who were hit by this storm is very critical. Hence the number of casualties may increase.
