New Delhi, October 27: The air quality in the national capital continues to remain in the ‘poor’ category, with the city’s overall air quality index (AQI) reaching 256 on Thursday morning, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting report. and Research (SAFAR).
Among specific areas, the AQI in Dhirpur, which measures PM 2.5, was at 307, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. AQI ranges are classified as: 0–50 (‘good’), 51–100 (‘satisfactory’), 101–200 (‘moderate’), 201–300 (‘poor’), 301–400 ( ‘Very poor’), and 401–500 (‘Severe’).
In Pusa, the AQI recorded PM 2.5 at 221, classifying it as ‘poor’. Meanwhile, on Lodhi Road, the air quality index was at 225 with PM 2.5 concentration falling in the ‘poor’ category, while PM 10 was at 161, indicating ‘moderate’ category.
At IIT Delhi station, the PM 2.5 reading was 256, placing it in the ‘poor’ category, while PM 10 reached 161, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category.
The air quality index on Mathura Road in the city was in the ‘moderate’ category, with PM 2.5 concentration at 169 and PM 10 concentration at 156.
According to SAFAR forecast, the air quality in the city is expected to deteriorate further, with PM 2.5 concentrations reaching 293 and PM 10 concentrations reaching 174 on Friday, both falling in the ‘moderate’ category.
Among neighboring cities, Noida classified them as ‘poor’ with an AQI of 269 and PM 10 concentration of 263. Meanwhile, Gurugram’s AQI was recorded at 176, while the PM 10 concentration stood at 136, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category.
