The Supreme Court has given relief to the residents of Delhi amid the growing water crisis and unprecedented heatwave. Himachal Pradesh has been ordered by the Supreme Court to release 137 cusecs of water to Delhi. Also, the court directed Haryana not to obstruct the flow of water to Delhi and to allow water to reach Wazirabad in Delhi.
However, the Haryana government had objected to this saying that there is no arrangement to convey the water released by Himachal Pradesh to Delhi. The Haryana government had said that it is not possible to segregate the water released by Himachal Pradesh to Haryana and Delhi. Rejecting these pleas of Haryana, the Supreme Court said that when Himachal Pradesh is giving water to Delhi, what is Haryana’s problem?
The court rejected all the pleas of the Haryana government and ordered to make arrangements for uninterrupted water supply to Delhi. The Supreme Court has said that it should also be noted that there should be no wastage of water in this process.
Supreme Court has instructed not to politicize this issue and directed to focus on solving water shortage in Delhi. The Supreme Court has directed Himachal Pradesh to release 137 cusecs of water to Delhi from Friday. On Monday, the court will again hear the case to take stock of the situation. The people of Delhi have got a big relief from this decision of the Supreme Court and hope is being expressed that the water shortage will improve in the coming days.
