The decision taken in the party’s national executive meeting last year regarding extension of Nadda’s tenure has been ratified in the national convention meeting. The party had taken the decision to extend the tenure of JP Nadda till June 2024 in view of the Lok Sabha elections last year itself.
Last year, in January 2023, following the decision of the party’s Parliamentary Board, the BJP National Executive meeting was held in Delhi. In this meeting, the proposal to extend the presidential tenure of JP Nadda till June 2024 in view of the Lok Sabha elections was approved. Now the decision of the BJP National Executive has also been approved by the National Convention following the rules of the party constitution.
Along with this, the party’s constitution has also been amended in the meeting. The National President and the Parliamentary Board have been made more powerful by amending the party’s constitution. A proposal to amend some provisions of the party constitution was presented by BJP National General Secretary Sunil Bansal on the second and last day of the national convention meeting and the proposal was unanimously accepted. By amending the party constitution, BJP has now given the power to the Parliamentary Board, the highest decision-making body of the party, to take decisions related to the party president in case of emergency.
According to the amendment made in the constitution of the party, the decision to extend or reduce the tenure of the National President can be taken by the Parliamentary Board of the party, whatever decision is taken will be according to the circumstances. In the amendment, the National President of the party has been given the right to appoint or remove any new member in the Parliamentary Board. The powers of the party’s National President and Parliamentary Board have been increased by amending the Constitution of BJP.
By amending the Constitution of BJP, the powers of the Party President and the Parliamentary Board have been clearly increased, but till now it has not been revealed that any leader can be made the President of the Parliamentary Board only twice or even more than that. Can.
According to the rules prevailing in the party till now, the party president is selected by an electoral college, which includes all the members of the State Council and the National Council. But before this the party has to go through a long process of elections from the district level to the state level. There was a condition in the old rules that any leader could be elected president only twice for the entire tenure and not more than that.
According to Section 19 of the party constitution, only that person can be the national president who has been an active member for at least four terms and a primary member for at least 15 years. Any twenty members of the electoral college can make a joint proposal for the name of the person who is eligible for election to the post of National President. Where the National Council elections have been completed, it is necessary for this joint proposal to come from at least five states. Candidate’s approval on nomination form is required.
