By April 23 Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader K. Kavita’s judicial custody has been extended. Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLC K. Kavita was produced in a Delhi court on April 15 after the CBI’s custody ended in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam. He has been sent to jail till April 23 by Judge Kaveri Baweja in the CBI case. In the ED case, his custody is also till April 23.
CBI sought 14-day judicial custody of K. Kavita during the court hearing, after which her custody has been extended till April 23. During this time in the court. Kavita’s lawyer said there was no basis to send her to judicial custody.
K. Kavita said in the Rouse Avenue court that, it is not the custody of the CBI, but it is the custody of the BJP. CBI is doing the same inquiry inside, which BJP is talking about outside. They are asking again and again for two years, there is nothing new.
K. Kavita was arrested by the CBI from Tihar Jail on April 11. The next day he was produced in court. The CBI had sought his five-day custody based on WhatsApp chats, witness statements and financial transaction documents related to the land. K. Kavita is accused of being actively involved in the bribery of Rs 100 crores in liquor policy.
The agency K. Kavita has been accused of being a prominent member of the ‘South Group’. The ‘South Group’ is alleged to have paid a bribe of Rs 100 crore to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi in return for a large share of liquor licences.
The court had said that the investigating agency has been able to show from the record that custodial interrogation is necessary to confront all the evidence and witnesses collected so far to trace the larger conspiracy in the case.
