Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal has agreed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in the liquor scam case. He has requested the ED to fix a date after March 12 for the inquiry. Earlier, the ED had issued summons on February 27 in the liquor scam case and directed them to appear before March 4.
Aam Aadmi Party sources said that the summons issued by the ED is illegal, but still Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is fully prepared to answer all the questions of the ED.
The Aam Aadmi Party said that Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal will appear for questioning through video conferencing, for which they have requested the Enforcement Directorate to give a date after March 12.
Earlier, the ED had issued a seventh summon to Kejriwal on February 21 for questioning, but he ignored this seventh summon and did not appear before the ED for questioning.
The ED had issued a fifth summons to Kejriwal on January 31 to appear on February 2.
The probe agency said that Kejriwal is ignoring the summons issued by the ED on false pretenses.
The Financial Investigation Agency’s complaint alleged that Kejriwal was deliberately not complying with the summons and was making excuses. Also, the Financial Investigation Agency said that if high-ranking public officials like him do not follow the law, a wrong precedent will be set for the common man.
Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party had said that the matter is in court and will be heard on March 16. Therefore, the Chief Minister will not appear before the ED.
Meanwhile, on the continuous summons of ED, AAP had said that the matter is in court now. So the ED should wait for the court’s decision and refrain from issuing repeated summons.
