A major theft at the Ram Mandir in Prayagraj has come to light, with police alleging that two brothers-in-law were responsible for stealing a significant portion of the cash donations collected at the temple during the recently concluded Maha Kumbh Mela.
According to police officials, the theft involved money donated by devotees visiting the temple during the religious gathering, one of the largest spiritual events in the world. Authorities launched an investigation after temple management reported discrepancies in the donation collections.
During the probe, police identified two men, who are related as brothers-in-law, as the prime suspects. Investigators believe they exploited their familiarity with the temple’s operations to siphon off large amounts of cash over a period of time.
The suspects were reportedly taken into custody, and police recovered a substantial portion of the stolen money during searches conducted at various locations. Officials said the accused had allegedly concealed the cash after removing it from the temple’s donation collections.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the total amount stolen, whether additional individuals were involved, and if the theft was carried out over multiple occasions during the Kumbh festival.
Temple authorities have expressed concern over the incident and said they are reviewing their security measures, including surveillance systems and donation handling procedures, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Maha Kumbh attracts millions of devotees from across India and around the world, resulting in significant donations at temples and religious institutions. Authorities have assured the public that strict action will be taken against those found guilty and that enhanced security measures will be implemented to safeguard devotees’ offerings.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected as police continue to examine the case.
