New Delhi, November 13: On the occasion of Diwali, an increase was seen in the sale of liquor in the national capital Delhi as compared to the same period last year. Diwali saw an increase of more than 37 percent in the number of liquor bottles sold compared to the total for the fortnight before the festival.
According to the data of the Excise Department, last year more than 2.26 crore liquor bottles were sold two weeks before Diwali. But this year, 2.58 crore bottles were sold in the last 15 days. According to this, 14.25 lakh bottles were sold on 6 November. 17.27 lakh bottles were sold on 7 November and a further increase was seen on 8 November, which increased to 17.33 lakh bottles respectively.
Last year, three days before Diwali, 13.46 lakh, 15 lakh, and 19.39 lakh liquor bottles were sold respectively. Whereas this year an average of 12.56 lakh liquor bottles were sold in the two weeks before Diwali. Till now 17.21 lakh liquor bottles have been sold.
