A draft bill recommending 10 percent reservation has been approved by the Maharashtra government. Accepting the report of a commission on Maratha quota, the Maharashtra government has approved 10 percent reservation for the community in education and government jobs. This information was given by the officials on Tuesday.
The report and draft bill of the Maharashtra State Backward Classes Commission (MSBCC) will be tabled in the one-day special session of the Maharashtra Legislature this afternoon. The main agenda of this special session is Maratha quota.
The Maharashtra State Backward Classes Commission (MSBCC), headed by retired judge Sunil Shukre, had on Friday February 16 submitted its detailed report probing the backwardness of the Maratha community to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
On Tuesday, the Shinde government is organizing a special session of the Maharashtra Legislature to raise the long-pending issue of reservation for the Maratha community. While on one hand this special session for the long pending issue of reservation is being said to be revolutionary, on the other hand prominent OBC leader Chhagan Bhujbal is skeptical.
The biggest challenge for the government is to live up to its promises. The most difficult task before them right now is to give Maratha quota without tampering with the existing OBC reservation.
