Jakarta, Sep 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced During a visit to Indonesia, that the establishment of an embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste, underlining India’s commitment to ASEAN and its ties with the Southeast Asian nation.
Ministry of External Affairs informed In an official statement, “During the ASEAN-India Summit held in Jakarta on September 7, 2023, Prime Minister Modi disclosed India’s decision to set up an Indian Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste. ”
The ministry further said that Timor-Leste and ASEAN members warmly welcomed the decision. Before becoming a full member, Timor-Leste became an observer of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2022.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi addressed the ASEAN-India Summit in Jakarta, emphasizing the regional bloc’s important role in India’s Act East policy.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi participated in the 18th East Asia Summit as part of his engagements during the visit.
