New Delhi, September 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm wishes on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti and announced the launch of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. In a post shared on social media platforms, he expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the invaluable contribution of artisans and laborers in the nation-building process.
This important announcement came on September 17, which is also Prime Minister Modi’s birthday.
The scheme was initially introduced by Modi during his August 15 address and immediately got approval from the Union Cabinet.
PM Vishwakarma Yojana, fully funded by the Central Government with a substantial allocation of Rs 13,000 crore, is designed to empower and enhance the skills of individuals involved in traditional crafts. It includes 18 such traditional crafts.

Under this scheme, Vishwakarma will receive recognition in the form of a PM Vishwakarma certificate and an ID card. In addition, they will be provided with vital support including loan assistance and skill development. This assistance includes basic and advanced training, a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000, collateral-free credit assistance up to Rs 1 lakh (in the first installment), and Rs 2 lakh (in the second installment) at a highly favorable interest rate of 5 percent. , incentives for digital transactions, and marketing assistance.
The launch of PM Vishwakarma Yojana is seen as a significant political outreach effort by the government, specifically aimed at the predominantly OBC (Other Backward Class) community, which includes Vishwakarma. This reach comes when the Lok Sabha elections are just a few months away, highlighting the government’s commitment to the welfare and development of various sections of society.
