Patna, January 6 (UITV)- Prashant Kishore, the head of Jan Suraj Party (JSUPA), had decided to sit on a fast unto death from January 2 at Gandhi Maidan in Patna over the irregularities in the BPSC examination in Bihar. His fast was regarding the question paper leak case of the BPSC examination and the confusing process against the candidates. Along with Prashant Kishore, some other supporters were also involved in this fast with their five-point demands.
Meanwhile, Patna Police detained Prashant Kishore at around 4 am on Monday and later arrested him. After the arrest, his medical examination was done and then the process of presenting him in the court was started. Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh said that Prashant Kishore and some of his supporters were illegally protesting in the restricted area in front of the Gandhi statue in Gandhi Maidan. The administration had already issued a notice to them to change the place of protest and asked them to go to the designated place, Gardnibagh, instead of Gandhi Maidan.
However, Prashant Kishore and his supporters did not follow the notice and continued with the dharna, after which an FIR was registered against him at Gandhi Maidan police station. The administration requested several times and gave enough time, but the dharna site was not vacated. Due to this, the police arrested him on Monday. SSP Avkash Kumar confirmed that Prashant Kishore has been arrested and will be produced in court after his medical examination.
Prashant Kishore was on a continuous hunger strike since January 2 and was raising his voice against the irregularities in the BPSC examination. He had demanded accountability from the state government and BPSC on this issue. He had also said that the future of a large number of candidates is at stake due to the irregularities during the examination. Apart from this, Prashant Kishore had also criticized the re-examination of BPSC, which he termed as unsatisfactory and otherwise.
Meanwhile, during the BPSC combined competitive examination on 13 December 2024, a rumor of question paper leak at Bapu Bhawan examination center in Patna spread, after which a large number of candidates boycotted the examination. Due to this rumor, there was a lot of confusion among the examinees and after this BPSC ordered to conduct the examination again at Bapu Bhawan. After this, re-examination was conducted at various examination centers in Patna on Saturday, but many candidates are still demanding cancellation of the entire examination.
Due to Prashant Kishore’s hunger strike, this issue took the form of political and social discussion in the state. His supporters said that this disturbance has affected thousands of students who appeared in the examination and the government should fix responsibility. Prashant Kishore raised this issue prominently and demanded an inquiry into the BPSC results.
This entire incident has raised questions on the education and examination system of the state and now all eyes are on what steps the state government and BPSC take regarding this disturbance. Prashant Kishor’s arrest and his hunger strike is going to further escalate this issue and it remains to be seen what new turn this matter takes in the coming days.
Prashant Kishor’s agitation regarding the irregularities in the BPSC exam has now become an important issue at the political and administrative level. Due to his protest, the pressure on the government and BPSC has increased and now it remains to be seen in which direction the solution to this issue goes.
