Nagpur, October 28: A significant initiative for large-scale freshwater and brackish water prawn farming in the Vidarbha region, with the aim of possible future export to the Gulf countries and other countries, was announced by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. Was.
Gadkari revealed that a pilot project is set to be launched focusing on using several private water bodies in Nagpur and Amravati divisions of Vidarbha region for shrimp farming. Given the successful growth of shrimp in neighboring Bhandara and Chandrapur districts, known for their delicious taste and export value, the government aims to expand this agricultural enterprise.
Speaking during the announcement of the 14th edition of Central India’s largest agricultural exhibition to be held from November 24-27, Gadkari, the driving force behind the agricultural exhibition, informed that initial steps have been initiated for the pilot project. District collectors have been tasked with identifying and preparing water bodies to support shrimp farming.
With an estimated 6,500 private water bodies available in the region, Gadkari highlighted that a US company has already expressed interest in importing shrimp from Vidarbha. He emphasized that upon successful implementation of the pilot project, extensive agricultural work will be carried out.
Gadkari further mentioned that the four-day agriculture exhibition will serve as a platform for dairy farmers, sugarcane growers, cotton cultivators and horticulture farmers to explore new technologies and innovative advancements in agricultural engineering.
