The 2,000 km Flight Across India
Following the murder, Sonam allegedly began a dramatic escape. Police allege she traveled over 2,000 km: first returning to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where she met her alleged lover in a rented accommodation. From there, she moved toward eastern Uttar Pradesh. Her trail ended at a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur. There, disheveled and emotionally distressed, she called her brother and was soon located by authorities.
Alleged Murder Plot
Investigators claim that Sonam orchestrated her husband’s murder by allegedly hiring four men, including her rumored lover, Raj Kushwaha, to carry out the act during the honeymoon. A local Khasi guide’s testimony played a key role—he reported seeing the couple with three unknown men just before Raja disappeared. Further proof included CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and forensic inconsistencies, like that early morning social media post made from Raja’s account after his presumed death.
