A male passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru experienced an unfortunate incident when he got trapped inside the aircraft’s toilet for over an hour on Tuesday due to a malfunction in the door lock. The situation unfolded on Flight SG-268, which departed from Mumbai airport at 2 am.
Upon taking off, a passenger in seat 14D entered the toilet but encountered difficulty in opening the door, leaving him unable to exit. Despite efforts from the crew and fellow passengers to assist from outside, the door remained stuck. Faced with the situation, the crew passed a note under the door, reassuring the passenger and advising him to secure himself on the toilet seat until the aircraft landed.
Upon landing at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru at approximately 3:42 am, engineers boarded the plane and successfully broke open the door, rescuing the trapped passenger. SpiceJet issued a statement acknowledging the incident, expressing regret for the inconvenience caused, and ensuring a full refund for the affected passenger.
“On 16 January, a passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock. Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door, and the passenger received immediate medical support,” SpiceJet said in a statement. “SpiceJet regrets and apologises for the inconvenience caused to the passenger. The passenger is being provided a full refund,” it added.
