Sep 8 – According to a statement, the child and women development department will restart registrations and will announce a date soon.
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the Karnataka government launched the Gruha Lakshmi initiative in Mysuru in the presence of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge. The scheme gives 2,000 in cash support to female heads of households in the state each month. Gandhi put the funds into the bank accounts of Gruha Lakshmi Yojana beneficiaries via direct benefit transfer (DBT) with a single click on the tablet.
The state administration was also granted permission to change ration cards from September 1 to September 10, in order to take advantage of the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ plan. The state government had stated that only women whose names appear as the head of the family on their ration cards, also known as Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards, Above Poverty Line (APL) cards, and Antyodaya cards, were eligible for the plan. It had not allowed citizens to replace their ration cards. According to the food and civil supplies department, almost 600,000 BPL card holders are male heads of households.
So far, 13 million women have registered for the programme. The state government has allocated approximately 17,500 crore for the programme in the current fiscal year and approximately 32,000 crore in the following fiscal year.
