The Supreme Court on Friday refused to rule on the Tamil Nadu government’s request that Karnataka provide 24,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily for standing crops, according to news agency PTI. After Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati informed the court that the authority’s meeting is set for Monday, a three-judge bench led by Justice BR Gavai requested a report from the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) on the amount of water given by Karnataka. “We have no expertise on the subject,” the Supreme Court stated.
Meanwhile, Karnataka police constituted a special investigative team on Thursday to look into anonymous threat letters received by notable Kannada writers, a day after a delegation of writers met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to demand a thorough investigation into the threats. Dr Marulasiddappa, who led the team to the meeting with Siddaramaiah on Wednesday, said the threats received over the previous year had forced the writers to live in fear and anxiety.
