Justin Bieber declined Usher’s invitation to perform at the Super Bowl VIII Halftime show. Despite this, Usher delivered an outstanding performance during the halftime show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. According to reports from Female First UK, Usher was eager to have Justin join him on stage, but Justin wasn’t interested at the time. However, sources assure that there are no hard feelings between the two.
Usher played a significant role in launching Justin Bieber’s career in the late 2000s. After being discovered by record executive Scooter Braun on YouTube, Justin met with Usher, who was impressed by his talent. Usher then signed Justin to his label RBMG, where Justin quickly released hit singles like “One Time,” “One Less Lonely Girl,” and “Baby,” along with the successful album “My World 2.0.”
As of 2024, Justin Bieber remains the only artist signed to RBMG. The label also has a special profit-sharing agreement with Def Jam, which is part of the Universal Music Group. During the halftime show, Usher began with his hit songs “Caught Up” and “U Don’t Have to Call.”
He then brought out Alicia Keys to perform their 2004 hit “My Boo” after she sang her own track “If I Ain’t Got You.” To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Usher’s album “Confessions,” he performed “Confessions Part II” with an introduction from rapper Jermaine.
Additionally, Usher sang “Burn” from the same album and was later joined by H.E.R. for “Bad Girl.” Keeping true to his promise, Usher incorporated elements of his “My Way” residency by rollerblading during “Yeah!” alongside Lil Jon and Ludacris. He also performed “Turn Down for What” with Lil Jon before ending the show with “Yeah!”.
