Finally, 2022 is ending and this was quite relaxable compared to the last two years that had travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin orders an invasion of Ukraine citing a “special military operation” as the reason.
The Russian forces targeted Ukrainian cities Kyiv, the eastern city of Kharkiv, the southern city of Kherson, Chernihiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk.
On February 28, Ukraine applied to join NATO which busted the anger of Putin and Russian attacks were more intense.
Thousands of Ukrainians fled the country becoming refugees in their neighboring countries.
In response to this European Union(EU) has imposed multiple rounds of sanctions on Russia intending to weaken its economy. EU declared a non-flying zone for Russian aircraft.
The US Congress had also come up with strict sanctions on Russian banks and immediately banning of exports of technologies.
Russia had fired more than 3000 missiles on Ukraine since Feb 24.
The European Union, North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO), and the United States stand as support. They helped Ukraine financially and supplied arms and ammunition along with military forces that help Ukraine defend itself against Russian attack.
Russian football team debarred from the FIFA 2022 Qatar due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
2. Gujarat Titans hold the Tata IPL 2022 championship title
Gujarat Titans bags the Tata IPL 2022 championship title by beating Rajasthan Royals.
Under the captainship of Hardik Pandya, Gujrat Titans won by seven wickets.
Hardik Pandya was the player of the match.
The final match was played on 29 May 2022 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad with 101,566 spectators.
3. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial
The couple had married in February 2015 and were split in May 2016 due to a toxic relationship post-marriage. They first met in 2009 while filming “The Rum Diary”.
Actor Johnny Depp had filed a defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard regarding Amber Heard’s The Washington Post published in 2018. She described herself surviving domestic violence without mentioning Depp’s name in the post.
The seven-person jury found that Heard’s allegations and claims were false and the jury ruled in favor of Johnny Depp.
The jury ordered Amber Heard to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages in the defamation trial.
The jury also awarded $2 million in compensatory damages to Amber Heard. The trial was started on April 11, 2022, and ended on June 1, 2022.
4. Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe assassinated
Shinzo Abe, the longest-serving Prime Minister of Japan was shot dead on July 08 by 41-year-old Yamagami Tetsuya, a resident of Nara city while addressing an election rally in the city of Nara.
The killer was dissatisfied with the former Prime Minister’s work and shot bullets from a handmade gun.
Abe was 67 and immediately collapsed after being shot and bleeding intensively and declared dead at the hospital.
Shinzo Abe was Japan’s prime minister from 2006 to 2007, and again from 2012 to 2020.
5. Nancy Pelosi Visited Taiwan
U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan on 02nd August triggered a nail-biting situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Chinese military launched a military exercise in the region close to Taiwan.
6. Queen Elizabeth’s death
Queen Elizabeth II took her last breath on 08th September 2022 after reigning for 70 years. She was the Queen of the United Kingdom and other commonwealth realms since 06th February 1952 and the UK’s longest-reigning monarch.
The counties and top leaders of the world mourned the death of the Royal woman. During her teenage Queen Elizabeth II devoted her life to social service before reigning.
7. Rishi Sunak elected as UK PM
The United Kingdom got its first British Indian Prime Minster Rishi Sunak. He is 42 and was a businessman before joining politics.
Rishi is married to Akshata Murty, the daughter of Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy.
He was crowned by Tory MPs as the UK’s new Prime Minister on 25 October 2022 after Liz Truss resigned as PM just 49 days after assuming the office.
8. Elon Musk Takes over Twitter
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk acquires the famous micro-blogging platform Twitter for $44 billion on 27th October 2022. Now he is the CEO of three different companies.
In April he declined the offer from Twitter’s board of directors although Musk held the largest shareholder with a 9% stake.
Later in April, he created a poll asking people to purchase Twitter for $43 billion and take the company private and received 83.5% votes as Yes.
Musk always questioned Twitter’s principle to tackle spam/fake accounts.
On October 27, 2022, Elon Musk becomes the new Twitter owner after the seal closes and immediately fires the CEO, CFO, and other top executives.
9. England wins T20 WC
England beat Pakistan by five wickets and claim the eighth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This was England’s second title.
It was scheduled in 2020 but was pushed to 2022 by International Cricket Council (ICC) due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions in many countries.
The world cup was held from 16 October to 13 November 2022 and was hosted by Australia.
10. Virat Kohli’s comeback after 1021 days
After 3 years, 1021 days, 33 months, 146 weeks, 24477 hours, and 1468624 minutes, Virat Kohli finally scored an international century on 10th December against Bangladesh. Kohli smashed 113 runs off 91 balls.
This was his 72nd international century, his last international century was in August 2019 against West Indies in Indore.
11. BJP’s rising
The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) retained the Chief Minister’s seat like as boss by winning with a huge majority of 156 seats out of a total of 182 seats.
This was the most ever seat bagged by any political party in Gujrat’s history. BJP’s Shri Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel was sworn in as the 17th Chief Minister of Gujrat on December 12, 2022.
12. Argentina wins FIFA 2022
Lionel Messi’s team Argentina becomes the FIFA 2022 Champion after beating France by 4-2 in a penalty shootout as the match was drawn 3-3. This was their second championship title after the 1986 win.
The FIFA 2022 World Cup was hosted by Qatar with a spending of $220 billion making it the most expensive football world cup hosted ever.
This was one of the thrilling World cup finals.
Messi has scored 98 goals for Argentina with 13 in World Cup.
Soon after FIFA 2022 win, Messi confirmed that this was his last world cup and it ended perfectly.
