Firstly, what are strip lashes? There are so many false eyelashes on the market, you need to know you are choosing the right ones for you. Strip lashes are the easiest for beginners and a great place to start to transform your eyes.
Strip lashes are the most common form of false eyelash and you can find them in most beauty stores and online. They are horizontal strips with clusters of eyelashes attached in the perfect form so you don’t have to worry about which lengths go where on your eyelids.
They come in many shapes and sizes, from subtle everyday looks to fuller, thicker, dramatic party lashes. You can even get ones with added glitter or colour if you want an over-the-top festival vibe.
We all have different eye shape and lash length and what looks great on your friend may not look good on you. Trying to find the best style can be a bit of trial and error but once you have found the right ones for you, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without your strip lashes.
You also need to consider what brand of eyelash you choose, there are so many on the market, you can get very cheap ones and also ones that will leave a big hole in your bank balance! Unless it’s a very special occasion, you don’t need to spend a fortune but we recommend not choosing the cheapest ones available unless this is just for practice. Cheaper eyelashes tend to be made of plastic that is less malleable than others, which means they can easily come off during an event as they do not shape as well to your eyelid.
How to Apply Strip Lashes
Have you been wondering how to apply false strip lashes? Firstly, you need to remove them safely from the packaging, you may be tempted to pull these off but you could damage them, leaving them unable to use.
If you use your fingers, you risk bending the strip, meaning they won’t shape well to your eyelid and leave you looking more Halloween than Hollywood.
Use a clean pair of tweezers to carefully remove them from the outer edge of each strip lash. Using the same tweezers, hold them carefully to your lid, this is how you measure them. It is unlikely they will fit your eye perfectly as they are typically made for the largest eyes with the option to cut down to size when needed.
You should measure from where your natural lashes start and end, then using a pair of good-quality scissors, trim from the outer edge. Always cut upwards from the strip as this reduces the risk of you accidentally cutting off lashes you actually want.
Once your strip lashes are the correct length, use the applicator in the glue to carefully run the adhesive along the strip. Now, wait, the glue needs to become tacky to secure properly to your lid, this is usually around 30 seconds. If you want a really strong hold, dot small amounts of glue on your upper lid.
Press the lash along your lash line, starting with the centre and working outwards, you may need to reposition this a few times if you have never given it a go. Don’t worry, it may look like you are making a mess of your eyelid but the glue should dry clear.
You can apply mascara before or after applying your strip lashes but a light coating beforehand can help you get a grip on your natural lashes to make positioning the strip lashes easier.
How to Remove False Eyelashes
Your false eyelashes should be the first thing you remove when you return home and should never be slept in as they can cause irritation and can also damage your natural lash.
To remove them, use your tweezers and gently pull from the outer edge away from your lid and place them back in the box to keep them safe until you are ready to clean them. Make sure you remove any excess glue from your eyelids with a gentle makeup remover.
Next, you need to know how to clean false eyelashes. You will need makeup remover, cotton balls and your tweezers. Soak the cotton balls in the makeup remover, brands that work specifically on eye makeup work best and it can get rid of waterproof mascara.
Gently wipe your soaked cotton ball along the false lash in an upward motion, ensuring you concentrate on both sides until all the makeup is removed.
Use a tweezer to remove any excess glue and wipe along the stripline with your cotton ball. Then, use an eyelash comb or a clean mascara wand to gently tease the lashes back to their original shape. Lay them on paper towels and leave in a safe place, away from drafts, to dry.
Not only does cleaning your false eyelashes mean you get more wear out of them, but it also protects your eyes from harmful bacteria.
By using proper care, you will get more use out of your eyelashes and you should now have a good idea on everything you need to know about strip lashes. If the thought is still daunting, ask a friend to help you, they may not need to even lend a hand, sometimes it is just reassuring to have a second opinion to know they are on straight!
So, now is a great time to give strip lashes a go, we promise you won’t regret it!
